Contract mechanics report
Exposure, settlement and margin rules
Contract rules, short-term structure, liquidity changes, execution and scenarios
Separate theoretical returns from actual trading conditions. Analyze notional exposure, collateral, fees, funding and the ability to exit during a fast market
Distinguish dated futures from perpetuals and check multipliers, settlement, expiry and funding. Record notional exposure, account equity and available margin separately. Assess isolated and cross-margin rules. Posted collateral measures funding rather than a universal ceiling on potential loss
Observe sessions, spreads, depth and quote changes. Compare liquidity across venues and maturities, including basis and rollover costs. Higher turnover does not guarantee an executable large order at the displayed price, especially when quotes change rapidly
Compare reference prices with actual fills, fees and unfilled quantities. Market orders prioritize execution without guaranteeing price; limit orders constrain price without guaranteeing a fill. Apply the specific venue rules to derivatives rather than assuming every market implements orders identically
Analyze price gaps, funding changes, mark-price behavior, margin calls and trading interruptions. Review available cash, linked exposures and the time needed to reduce positions. A risk framework must address delayed or unavailable exits as well as expected normal execution
Check contract versions and margin definitions

Mechanism, cost, liquidity and risk analysis inform the understanding of these instruments. Actual arrangements require review of product terms, objectives and implementation conditions
